The St. Petersburg Times Fund, Inc., is the umbrella philanthropic organization for the St. Petersburg Times/Times Publishing Co., which is headquartered in St. Petersburg, FL. The not-for-profit organization was established in 1953 by Nelson Poynter, the owner/editor of the news/information company, to train, assist and inspire college students pursuing a career in journalism. The Fund continues in that tradition by providing funding to local organizations and scholarships to individuals.
In these ways, the Fund builds on what the Poynter family saw as its responsibility to the communities that sustained its business as well as to the journalism industry.
